Mauritius Double Tax Treaty Update July 2020

Mauritius Zambia Treaty suspended

The Zambian Cabinet has announced on the 22 June 2020 that the treaty with Mauritius has been terminated. However, they also announced the initiation of negotiations to negotiate a new agreement which will have share taxing rights and anti abuse clauses.  In terms of the treaty Zambia may terminate the treaty which will cease to have effect in Mauritius for any income tax year beginning on or after the first day of July after notice is given. It will take effect in Zambia with regards to deductions at source, after the end of the calendar year in which such notice is given, and with regards to other taxes in respect of years beginning after the end of the calendar year in which notice is given.

Mauritius Estonia Treaty

On the 18th June the Estonian government authorised the signing of the tax treaty between Estonia and Mauritius.

Mauritius Turkey Treaty

In terms of a press release of 26 June 2020, by the Mauritius Ministry of Finance,  negotiations for a tax treaty between Mauritius and Turkey commenced on 25 June 2020.

Mauritius Botswana Protocol signed

In terms of a  press release of 26 June 2020, by the Mauritius Ministry of Finance, the amending protocol to the Botswanan treaty, will enter into force on the 27th February 2020.
