IPPA And GECA Between Mauritius And Côte D’Ivoire

The 5th Edition of the Economic Forum, organized by the General Confederation of Enterprises of Côte d’Ivoire (CGECI – Ivorian National Council of Employers), known as the CGECI Academy was held on 21 and 22 April 2016 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Mauritius was invited to this event as Guest of Honour, and was attended by the Honourable Xavier-Luc Duval, G.C.S.K, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and External Communications.
By attending this forum, Mauritius has shown and emphasised its interest in developing business opportunities with Côte d’Ivoire and more generally to develop its cooperation with countries in Western Africa.
In August 2015 and April 2016 Mauritius welcomed an Ivorian delegation, after which, on 20 April 2016, both countries signed an agreement for the protection and promotion of investments (IPPA). In addition to this agreement, a further agreement was signed on 4 March 2016 in New York for the establishment of future diplomatic relations and the strengthening of economic cooperation.
Other agreements which were signed in April of this year include a Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) and the establishment of a Joint Cooperation Committee, ratified by the Honourable Xavier-Luc Duval when he visited Ghana and where he met with the Ghanaian President, His Excellency Mr. John Dramani Mahama. At this meeting other topics were focused on such as the status on the Dawa Special Economic Zone project, mutual interest on the countries, including cooperation in the fields of tourism, textile, air connectivity.
